MIAMI – The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) arrested Pearlandria Boujolly, 29, of Miami-Dade, in connection to an overdose death of her 18-month-old child. She is charged with one count of aggravated manslaughter of a child under 18 years old.
“The State Assistance for Fentanyl Eradication (S.A.F.E.) program has been a monumental resource in Florida’s fight against fentanyl trafficking,” said FDLE Miami Special Agent in Charge Michael Stein. “When the deadly effects of fentanyl hit our communities, especially our children, FDLE and our partners are motivated, more than ever, to use every investigative resource available to hold everyone involved accountable.”
“Today’s arrest reflects the strong partnership between the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the City of Miami Police Department, and I thank them for their diligent work,” said State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle. “It is a heartbreaking day when a child loses their life inside their own home due to a parent’s recklessness and dangerous drugs left out in the open. My office has long focused on drug‑induced homicides, and these efforts represent a joint commitment to educating the community and preventing these senseless and entirely avoidable deaths.”
“The death of an 18-month-old child from fentanyl exposure is a heartbreaking and entirely preventable tragedy. This arrest sends a clear message: there is zero tolerance for negligence that puts an innocent child’s life at risk,” said Miami Police Department Chief Edwin Lopez. “I’m grateful for the outstanding work of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement SAFE Task Force, our Miami Police investigators, and all of our partner agencies. This arrest is a direct result of strong collaboration and our shared commitment to protecting our most vulnerable and holding those responsible accountable.”
On Sunday, Jan. 3, 2026, at approximately 3:50 a.m., the City of Miami Police Department and Miami Fire Rescue responded to an unresponsive male infant. The victim was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital (JMH) for further treatment but was pronounced deceased a short time later. The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s Department conducted an autopsy, which revealed the presence of fentanyl and trace amount of cocaine in the victim’s blood.
