TEEN USES LAW, LEADERSHIP TO INSPIRE NEXT GENERATION

While many teenagers spend their free time focused on school and extracurricular activities, Miami native Mia Moreno has dedicated hers to serving her community and inspiring the next generation of leaders.
A senior at Saint Brendan High School, Moreno, who resides in South Miami-Dade, has combined her passion for law, education, and public service by founding two nonprofit organizations that provide students with opportunities to learn about the legal profession and civic engagement.
Her first organization, Little Lawyers of Florida, introduces middle school students to the fundamentals of law, leadership, and civic responsibility through educational presentations and community outreach. The nonprofit also has organized service initiatives, including a school-wide book drive benefiting Saint John Bosco.
Moreno later expanded her mission by creating LawTalk Interviews, an educational platform that connects students with accomplished judges, attorneys, elected officials, and legal professionals. Through in-depth interviews, she gives young people a firsthand look into careers in law while highlighting the individuals who serve South Florida.
Her dedication extends beyond her nonprofits. Moreno was selected for Miami-Dade County Commission chair Anthony Rodriguez’s competitive Miami-Dade Youth Engagement Program, where she represented District 8 while exploring county government, public policy, and legislative leadership.
She also has gained professional experience through internships and externships with the Federal Courthouse, the Downtown Development Authority, Kaufman Rossin, and Starboard Group, while maintaining a 4.3 weighted GPA and completing more than 520 hours of community service.
For Moreno, the goal has never been recognition — it has been representation. As a proud member of the local community, Moreno hopes her work encourages more students to get involved, give back, and discover how they can make a difference in the place they call home.
